Kidbox - Third box review! (New Years, 2019)

I decided to order a second New Year's box since the last was underwhelming - and I'm glad I did! I put a reminder for them to check my emailed notes when doing the style quiz. It definitely looks like they paid attention. We kept the whole box. Styling wasn't 100% spot on as one item was very opposite of what I asked for, but I'm comfortable raising the rating back up to a very good 17/20. I probably won't need any more boxes soon as we have plenty of size 4 clothes now, but I plan to get more once she is into the 5s and possibly for gifts for other relatives.

I covered what the subscription is and cost/shipping/etc. in my first two blog posts on it, so in this blog post I am going to take a closer look at the actual clothes we got. Not all pictures will be perfect as my just-turned-three toddler doesn't like to stay still for pictures ;)

Each Kidbox comes smartly packaged in a cardboard box with Kidbox splashed across the side. My daughter knows when they come that it is 'her' box and gets super excited about opening it. Inside there are a few things: the clothes, of course, generally wrapped in tissue paper in batches of 3-4 items. There is also "The Scribbler" - a little newspaper they put out with a mix of kid activities, relevant articles to raising kids, a trend report on kid fashions, etc. It's actually pretty well done and not just filler.

There seems to always be a set of coloring crayons and cute Alphabet stickers as well.

Each box comes with another freebie that varies. My first two boxes came with three sheets of 'wrapping paper' with a design of a lot of kids holding Kidboxes.

This third box came with a nice set of playing cards. It's a little smaller than a standard deck but not too tiny - but a good size for small kid hands. The quality is actually pretty good and the design is cute - lots of different patterns just like in the Kidbox logo. Last night we got them out and I taught my toddler to play Go Fish! (She wasn't much interested in the game as a whole, but loved grabbing what she called "Goldfish cards" out of the big pile to hand to daddy or mommy.)

In addition to all the extras, the last items in the box were a postage return slip (in case I needed to return anything or return the whole box) and my invoice.

I got 7 invoice items this time around with a total rv of $233. There were actually 9 individual pieces as two items were sets. The flat fee for keeping a whole box is $98 (or $73 if it is your first box and you go through a referral code. Referrals get you $25 off and save the Referrer $25 off of their next box, too! http://refer.kidbox.com/k-Azg)

#1 Reebok Girl's Two Piece Set in Pink  [rv $48, Kidbox price $36]

I loved this inclusion as this sporty set is *warm.* It's made with thick quality fabric that has a sort of fuzzy fleece lining to it. Some nice stitching detail keeps it from being too plain. This outfit came just in time for our crazy snowstorm weather! And there is room to grow so it should fit my daughter through next winter as well. The Reebok logo is tiny and tasteful (I don't like giant logos splashed across clothes.)

However there was one flaw I didn't notice in my first inspection, but only once I put it on my daughter. One of the sleeves is gaping along the seams a couple inches! It's a pretty easy fix on my sewing machine so I am not going to bother exchanging it - I already put it on my daughter to wear and washed it ;) And considering the missing stitches couldn't be seen when the garment was laying flat, it's not something I am miffed about their QC missing. But I'll definitely be doing a more thorough inspection next time around before I put the clothes on my daughter or take the tags off. They do free exchanges for size or damage though, so if I had wanted to send this back I could have.

Edit: I recently wrote them with pictures of the seam hole in this garment as well as a tiny hole from an item in the Babybox. Customer service was very friendly and fast (I think I got wrote back within 4 minutes of sending the email?) - they gave me a $25 credit for my inconvenience which was pretty nice!

#2 Adidas Girl's Rainbow Lettered Three Stripes Top in Grey [Rv $22, Kidbox price $17]

This item was a complete "miss" - I'm not sure why it was included at all. I marked in the style quiz to avoid logos and in my emailed notes (possibly my style quiz notes as well) to have no 'word' elements. This is basically a shirt that repeats "The brand with Three Stripes" over and over in rainbow foil lettering. I like the heart shape the words make and the foil color is cute, but this isn't something I would generally put on my daughter. I'll be either giving this one away or donating it.

Edit: This was passed on to a slightly older cousin, who LOVES how comfy cozy and sparkly it is! One good thing about the box is that it's easy to break up for gifts if you have similar sized relatives. (And the babyboxes are great if you have multiple baby showers of the same sex to get gifts for, one box can become multiple gifts.)

#3 Splendid Girl's Camo Jersey Legging [rv $26, Kidbox price $19]

These are well made leggings out of a stretchy cotton spandex blend. The Dark camo isn't necessarily something I would have picked myself, but I am sure my daughter will find them comfortable and that they will match a lot of things due to the dark colorway.

Edit: Now that my daughter has worn these, I can say they are indeed very nice! The fit was great and the fabric was high quality. These should hold up to heavy play and last through all three of my girls. :)

Kidbox seems to send a lot of leggings so if you do not want leggings at all or just not very many, be sure to note it in the style quiz or email them. But the Matilda Jane leggings we kept from the second box were super cute!

#4 Extreme Concepts Superman Tee in Grey and Pink [rv $16, Kidbox price $13]

When I opened the box I didn't think too much of this shirt at first, it seemed like just another cute but basic t-shirt to me. I didn't think my daughter would like the S, either, since she prefers pictures of things like cats or giraffes. But wow, when she saw it she lit up and wanted to try it on immediately! Later when she saw the pretty dress she thought for a moment and shook her head, "I can't wear it. I wearing this one!" - realizing she couldn't wear both the dress and the shirt. She asked to wear the dress the next day ;) She wanted to sleep in the shirt, too, though I convinced her the shirt would stay nicer if we didn't use it for pajamas. She only has a few 'favorites' when it comes to clothes (that she never wants to take off if I put them on her, lol) so it was cute that she fell in love with this shirt. I think she loves the colors in it, it is quite bright! She did ask what the 'S' was and I didn't even need to get into Superheroes. She thought it was perfectly cool to rock a letter of the alphabet. ;)

Edit: Now that my daughter can identify all the letters, she loves this shirt even more. And she calls letters "Super Letters" due to that kid's show Super Why :) So this shirt is even more perfect for her as she pretends to fly into books looking for the Super Story answer to her problems ;) She even wants to sleep in it. :)

#5 Toby & Company Girl's Unicorn Earmuffs and Gloves Set in Pink [rv $22, Kidbox price $16]

These are so cute! I'd noted in my email that my daughter loves accessories, and mentioned animal earmuffs as one of the types of things she would love. These have a cute little unicorn horn sticking up as well as fun little unicorn ears. The muffs are large and cover her ears well. They are a tad big for her so apparently fell off a couple times when she was playing in the snow, though. The gloves are definitely too big, but she loves gloves so wore them anyway. The gloves are just a plain pink- it might have been nice to have a little detailing there to match with the unicorn theme given the original RV price. I'd never heard of this brand but I plan to look them up next time I need to get a gift for a kid's birthday.

Edit: She's worn these a few times now - the gloves more than the headband as the headband is just slightly loose on her so it sometimes falls off when she is playing hard - but then she did only just turn three and I get size 4 clothes for her. The headband should fit her better soon with plenty room to grow. The gloves are big on her too, but she doesn't mind and has fun getting her fingers in the right holes. They may be plain pink, but I actually really like the material. I didn't notice it at first until laundering a couple of times but there is some sort of soft fuzzy fiber to them so they get softer each wash, and they are holding up really well even with her playing in the snow and needing to launder them repetitively. She also likes putting the horn on for dress up.

# 6 Hudson 'Christa' Dark wash skinny jeans [rv $45, Kidbox price $33]

These are a basic pair of skinny jeans, but more on the thin 'fashion' side than the thick durable play jeans I generally prefer. It's a cotton, spandex, rayon, polyester blend. They are stretchy and seem quite long for a size 4, so I am guessing the cuffs would have to be rolled up a couple times. There is no real detailing besides some contrast stitching and little black Vs in the back pockets, so the original rv seems very inflated to me. But they will be a good basic to add to my daughter' wardrobe, as while she has some black jeans and some pretty patterned jeans from Children's Place I don't think she has any in this color. And while I might like the thicker jeans, my daughter prefers them thin like this as they are more comfortable for her.

#7 BCBG Crushed Velvet w/Tiered Tulle Ruffle Dress in Pink [rv $54, Kidbox price $32]

This dress is so pretty! The crushed velvet is a pretty pink and the tulle is a pinky lavender, so overall it's very soft and feminine. The torso is long with a dropped waist, so I think this will fit my daughter for a while. I do wish it wasn't sleeveless, but because it is it makes a great layering dress. I'd mentioned in my email that my daughter's hope for 'what she would like most' in the box was a pink or purple dress. This fits the bill! When she came in from the snow the other day and had to change she asked to wear this one (even though I made her layer some warmer items under it, lol) and she pranced around in it quite happily.

So that was our latest box! I appreciate that the 'flat box fee' for Kidbox means that generally one is only paying $14-$16 per item or more than 50% off retail, for brands that would normally be well outside of my kid's clothing budget. This can be even less if you use a referral code, have referral credit, or depending on the number of items in the box and the total rv.
